Beskrivelse
English: John Byrom's shorthand writing in his own shorthand system. Transcription: "I came here from Cambridge last Friday 3 o'clock with Mr Lucas. We set out 11 and came to Ware that night. My horse tired with me and tired me severely. We lay at the Crown where the man's daughter has just died. I was sick but it were of God. We had beginners to supper, but I had no stomach. We talked of moral fortitude. I spoke to my landlord for another horse which he got me next morning. I came to London about 3 o'clock and went after I had left my horse at the Dolphin. Went to Bishopsgate. Timing sad betimes, where I found brother Josiah and by the bye sister Anne came Willy Chaddock and I drank tea there and called at cousin Chad. And at Salkeld's where Jackson the town clerk was. Surprise I went, surprise I would. I thence home to the new coffee house by cousin Chaddock's. Thence to North's coffee hse, to read the Grub street journal. Dr Plumtre there etc."
