By 1939, isolationist sentiment in America had ebbed, but the United States at first declined to enter the war, limiting itself to giving supplies and weapons to [[United Kingdom|Britain]], [[Nationalist China]], and the [[Soviet Union]]. After the sudden Japanese [[Battle of Pearl Harbor|attack on Pearl Harbor]], the United States quickly joined the British-Soviet alliance against [[Imperial Japan]], [[Fascist Italy]], and [[Nazi Germany]], known as the "[[Axis Powers]]".
