GeoScene3D redigér

GeoScene3D is a software for building 3D geological models. It is developed by I•GIS, a Danish software and IT service provider. Data from various sources can both be visualized and used directly to support manual and automatic geological modelling approaches. The software contains a suite of different tools and workflows allowing 3D geological models to be built both as layers and voxels. The software consists of three main components allowing the user to interact with data and models in a 3D environment, in 2D GIS-like map windows, and through 2D cross sections. The general tools allows for many different use cases within different sectors, with the most common being hydrogeology, contamination and environment and urban geology. But there are also an increasing number of users within the geotechnical and mining industry. The GeoScene3D users are manifold and are affiliated with national and regional surveys, municipalities, regional and state authorities, consulting companies, and universities throughout the world. By February 2021 the users are spread over the following countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Malaysia, New-Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Thailand, USA, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.

History redigér

GeoScene3D was introduced back in 2005. The Danish Counties initiated (and later the Danish government continued-) a large-scale groundwater mapping campaign in Denmark, in which many different data were involved. An extensive use of Geophysical Exploration geophysical methods were used, and various new methods were developed and refined during the mapping. The new methods required new ways of handling data for use in a 3D geological modeling system. GeoScene3D was initially developed for supporting these data and has been under further development since then, supporting a large number of different geological related data, used for geological modeling. I·GIS is involved in various research and development projects involving e.g. Universities, governments and private companies, which means that the software is under frequent revisions and upgrades. This has e.g., resulted in functionalities to build Urban Geological Models, accessing uncertainties in models, as well as the ability to work with very big models via the concept of scene extents and cloud-based data storage. Although there is still a strong user base in Denmark the use of the software has been adopted globally, especially among geological surveys and consultancy companies.

Technology redigér

GeoScene3D is a 3D desktop software running under MS Windows. As a 3D software, GeoScene3D is relying intensely on graphics card performance. Current version of the software is running 64bit thus allowing for quite large datasets. GeoScene3D can utilize cloud-based datasets (a proprietary system called GeoCloud) and in principle enabling the user to work fully remote with the models.
