English: This is the transliteration of the word "Irai Leima" ("Erai Leima") in Meitei/Meetei/Manipuri script. "Irai" ("Erai") is an adjective word for water, like "aquatic" of English. "Irai" ("Erai") also means "Friday" in Meitei/Meetei/Manipuri language but here, it doesn't carry the meaning of the day of the week. "Leima" literally means lady, mistress or goddess in Meitei/Meetei/Manipuri language. "Irai Leima" ("Erai Leima") is the goddess of water in Meitei mythology and religion (Sanamahism). |
