Catalogue of a most splendid and instructive Collection of antient armour [...] (?), Oplotheca, London, 1816, kat. nr. 90, p. 12-13, as ‘This superb Helmet said to have belonged to Francis I. is of the very finest style of workmanship.–It appears to be the design of Lionardo Da Vinci, and the execution of Benvenuto Celini,–the front represents a chimera, or sort of dolphin's head, the eyes of which are finely executed, as is also the beautiful arabesque ornaments that enrich the head and the crest.–It must be allowed to be a piece of work worthy the artists who performed it, and the Monarch for whom it was wrought.’.
