Death Takes Good Citizen. N. L. Winblad Is Summoned Into the Hereafter After a Busy and Useful Life. Nils L. Winblad, the well-known citizen, passed from the scenes of this life last Friday, Jan. 24, at 10:10 p.m., at the age of nearly sixty-seven years, death being caused by a bronchial affection coming as a result of an attack of la grippe. About a year ago the old gentleman had a bad attack but recovered. The last attack came ten days before his death. His passing was a Christian's triumph over death. Nils Larson Winblad was born March 20, 1841, at the village of Edenryd, Ivetofta parish, Kristianstads län, Sweden. When a boy he learned the tailor's trade and later became a gardener. His parents died while he was yet in Sweden. At the age of 27 years he left for America in company with some friends, among whom were John Mattson and wife, who later became his parents-at-law. He remained in Chicago, while the Mattsons came to Kandiyohi county and took homesteads in Whitefield. The following year Miss Carrie Mattson came over and joined her parents, and in 1870 became the wife of Mr. Winblad. They lived in Chicago in the time of the great fire, and in 1873 moved to Willmar, where they have lived ever since. Mr. Winblad was first an employee in the tailoring establishment of Lewis Rodlun. In 1889 he entered into partnership with Andrew Peterson in the furniture business. In 1895 he sold his interest to Albert C. Johnson and with his wife made a visit back to the land of his birth. Since his return and until about a year ago he has assisted Mr. Peterson in the conduct of his business. In 1879 and in 1892 he served as alderman from the Third ward in the city. As a citizen Mr. Winblad was an uncompromising champion of reform and uplifting in-fluences. His last term as alderman was in the famous first no-license council of 1892. In 1892 he made a splendid run for register of deeds as the candidate of the prohibitionists and Farmers' Alliance. He was ever active in the long struggle for a cleaner and better city. While yet a young man in Sweden, the deceased became converted and was baptized and became a member of the Swedish Baptist church. His missionary zeal was great, and soon after his arrival at Willmar the first Swedish Sunday school at Willmar was organized at his house. In 1875, with his wife, he became among the original members of the local Swedish Baptist church, and since that time he has faithfully attended, served and supported this church. Until last year he was the superintendent of the Sunday school, having served as such continuously for more than thirty years. He loved' the children and the children returned his love, which ripened into esteem and respect as they grew older. His early pupils are now grown men and women. and many were out to attend the memorial services yesterday. The deceased was also a great lover of flowers, and never failed to have large beds of them in bloom on his lawn. At church or otherwise he would always wear a small bouquet or a fresh blossom in the lapel of his coat. The deceased was a most lovable character, cheerful, kindly and sympathetic in 'his associations. Long will his familiar figure live in the memories of those who knew him. The deceased is mourned by his wife, by his son, Frank, of Duluth, and his foster-son. Henry, of New London, and a number of other relatives, who have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. The funeral occurred yesterday, and in spite of the, severe weather, a large number of people gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased. Services were held at the Swedish Baptist church. Rev. A. G. Hall read the first three verses of the first psalm and a quotation from Revelations, and led in prayer. Mrs. A. G. Hall and Miss Esther Peterson sang a duet. Rev. C. A. Lindahl then made a brief discourse, using as his test Joshua 1:2. He brought out some striking thoughts of the passing of the great man Moses, and his work being given to others to complete. This sermon was followed by a song by the little girls of the Sunday school. The pastor, Rev. Hall, then made an address, reading Isaiah 57:2 as an introduction., He spoke of the certainty of death and the reality of eternity and exhorted his hearers to live and be prepared so that they all might meet death as cheerfully and joyfully as did Mr. Winblad. He spoke feelingly of the late brother's work in the church and Sunday school. A quartet composed of Messrs. Oscar Hogberg, Lewis Ekdahl, Mrs. Hail and Miss Esther Peterson rendered a closing song. There were a large number of floral offerings. A beautiful lyre was from the congregation, and a crescent from the Sunday school, A broken wheel by relatives, a wreath from Baby Windblade of Duluth, wreaths and bouquets of carnations, tulips and Easter lilies from friends. The W.C.T.U. and M.W.A. had offerings. The interment took place at Fairview cemetery. The pallbearers from the house were John Ahlstrain, J. W. Kent, Oscar Bjelkengren, Elmer Peterson, Nels Holm and Jalmar Nyquist, the pallbearers to the cemetery were O. J. Ahlstrom, Andrew Johnson, L. J. Erickson, John Lundgren, Peter. Peterson and Per Person.
