IEEE 802.11be, kaldet Extremely High Throughput (EHT), er den seneste af IEEE 802.11-standarden,[6][7] som er betegnet Wi-Fi 7.[8][9][10] Den bygger på 802.11ax med fokus på WLAN indendørs og udendørs drift med stationære og fodgængerhastigheder i frekvensbåndene 2,4, 5 og 6 GHz.[11]
Forbindelseshastigheden menes at nå et teoretisk maksimum på 46 Gbit/s, selvom de faktiske resultater er meget lavere.[12]
Udviklingen af 802.11be er i gang, med et første udkast i marts 2021, og en endelig version forventes ved udgangen af 2024.[9][13][14] På trods af dette blev adskillige produkter annonceret i 2022 baseret på udkast til standarder, med detailtilgængelighed i begyndelsen af 2023. Den 8. januar 2024 introducerede Wi-Fi Alliance sit "Wi-Fi Certified 7"-program for at certificere Wi-Fi 7-enheder. Mens den endelige ratificering først forventes i slutningen af 2024, er de tekniske krav stort set fuldstændige.[12]
Det globale Wi-Fi 7-marked anslås til 1 milliard USD i 2023 og forventes at nå 24,2 milliarder USD i 2030.[15]
