Sammen med Henry Norris Russell udviklede han Hertzsprung-Russell-diagrammet

Dette kan opfattes således at Russell og Hertzsprung i samarbejde udviklede diagrammet. Andetsteds påstås at de to forskere uafhængigt af hinanden og omtrent samtidigt kom på ideen.

Hvad er den rette sammenhæng?

Pronunciation redigér

Hello, and sorry for writing in English, I don't speak Danish.

Can you explain the Danish pronunciation of Hertzprung's last name? Specifically, is the s pronounced like the s in "size" or the "sh" in "shoe"?

Thanks! Odedee 21. maj 2008, 11:29 (CEST)Svar

The name sounds German - and they (the Germans) pronounce the z in Hertz like the s in size, and the s in sprung like the sh in shoe. But if i should pronounce it in Danish: The name has 2 parts; Hertz and sprung. The first part (just like in German) sounds like hair + ts (with an s like in size). The second part is sprung. Here i would pronounce the s like in size. Btw. the u in sprung is not pronounced like the o in among, but more like the o in sold. --‎‎‎‎CThure 21. maj 2008, 11:59 (CEST)Svar
I second that, the "zs" is pronounced as double-s in Danish. For the first part, however, instead of "hair" I could point to the first part of "herring" followed by ts (like in hearts). Regarding the Danish "u" I am not quite satisfied with "o in sold" but I will leave it at that since it is indeed closer than "o in above" (between that and the oo in loose, maybe). --Sir48 (Thyge) 21. maj 2008, 12:21 (CEST)Svar
Thanks. The name does sound German; I assume Hertzsprung's ancestors were German, so it is possible that he retained the German pronunciation of the name. I am asking this because in the Hebrew Wikipedia we are trying to ascertain whether the established Hebrew transcription (which assumes s as in "shoe") is a common error, or whether Hertzsprung kept his ancestors' pronunciation. I'm wondering if someone familiar with Astronomy knows the established pronunciation within the Danish astronomic community. Odedee 21. maj 2008, 12:45 (CEST)Svar
I think everyone in Denmark pronounce it the same way, astronomer or not :-). And it is definitely not like s i shoe in Danish (nor in German). --Sir48 (Thyge) 21. maj 2008, 12:58 (CEST)Svar
I would still say, that where i come from in Denmark, the first part (the "Her" from Hertz) is not pronounced like in herring, but more like in hair. Secondly, i would claim that sprung and schprung is pronounced the same way in German, with sh-sound from shoe. --‎‎‎‎CThure 21. maj 2008, 13:23 (CEST)Svar
Thanks everybody, I'll convey your feedback to the Hebrew Wikipedia. Cheers, Odedee 21. maj 2008, 15:52 (CEST)Svar
