Serie A er den bedste række i italiensk fodbold. Der er i alt 20 hold i ligaen, hvor af vinderen bliver kåret som national mester. De tre hold der har færrest point i turneringen, rykker ned og erstattes af tre oprykkere fra Serie B.

Serie A var ifølge IFFHS verdens stærkeste nationale liga i 2020,^[1] og er rangeret som den tredje bedste blandt de europæiske ligaer ifølge UEFA's liga-koefficient. UEFA's liga-koefficient er baseret på de italienske klubbers præstationer i Champions League og Europa League i løbet af de foregående fem år. Serie A toppede UEFA's rangliste fra 1986 til 1988 og igen fra 1990 til 1999.^[2]
